According to the Dinalungan Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), 168 houses were damaged by Uwan, with Barangay Abuleg recording the highest number of destroyed homes.
The storm surge was so powerful that even coconut trees were uprooted. The area has long been identified as highly susceptible to storm surges, with warning signs already posted beforehand.
Residents say they want to relocate but have nowhere else to go.
Mayor Arvee Vargas said the local government plans to strengthen flood control systems to protect the community from future storm surges and river overflows.
